How to configure the tracking URL of orders in Prestashop

The Oct8ne plugin for Prestashop (since version 1.0.28) has the ability to access customer order data. The integration of Oct8ne with prestashop orders allows to know the order number or order id, the products that have been bought in that order, etc. Among other things, it is also able to know the transport of the order, and what is most important for the end customer; the tracking URL of the order in question.

For Oct8ne to be able to give this information to the customer, your prestashop must have CORRECTLY configured carriers; otherwise, it would not be possible for Oct8ne to access this information.

The ‘Carriers’ page within Prestashop presents a list of all your current carriers. From there, you can directly change their status, indicate why the shipment is free or not, and change their position when presented to customers.

To create a new carrier, click on the ‘Add New’ button on the ‘Carriers’ page. This will open the Carrier Wizard in the first of its four panels.

The tracking url for tracking is set in the General Settings panel.

Pane 1: General Settings

This is where you describe the carrier, giving the information the customer will need to recognise and choose the carrier they prefer.

Let's look at all the information you need to enter:

1. Name of the carrier. The name is public, so you must use the official name. If a carrier has different shipping services, you must create as many carriers in PrestaShop and differentiate them with their names.
You can also add a description of the service. For example, you can fill in ‘PrestaShipping - 500 pounds and more’.

2. Transit time. The estimated time it takes for this carrier to deliver your products, written in plain language. This is displayed to customers during the checkout process. It will help them select their carrier according to the amount of time they are willing to wait to receive their shipment. Customers may often agree to pay more for a faster carrier.
You should fill in this field in all available languages, especially the default one.

3. Speed grade. Since the ‘Transit time’ field can contain any text, it cannot be used to compare transit times of carriers. The ‘Speed grade’ setting allows you to give the carrier a grade, from 0 (very slow) to 9 (very fast). This is used to rank carriers by their speed grade and help customers choose the one they prefer.

4. Logo. Having a logo helps customers choose between different carriers more easily. Presta Shop will resize your image to fit on the checkout page.

5. Tracking URL. This field must be filled in with the tracking URL provided by your operator (if one exists). Indicate ‘@’ where the tracking number will appear.

For example, the French postal service (La Poste) provides this URL: .when customers finalise their purchase, they will receive that URL with the ‘@’ replaced by the tracking number provided by the carrier, allowing them to click on that link and see where they are in the delivery process.
