CONFIGURING PERMISSIONS WHEN INSTALLING MESSENGER AND INSTAGRAM (VIA ONE-CLICK)

CONFIGURING PERMISSIONS WHEN INSTALLING MESSENGER AND INSTAGRAM (VIA ONE-CLICK)

The issue arises when, upon initiating the one-click process, the user receives a message indicating they are not an admin of the page, causing the process to be canceled. Often, the user asserts that they are indeed an admin and demonstrates that they are an admin of the business on Meta. However, the issue is different.

To complete the one-click setup, the user must be an admin of the Facebook Page itself, which is a separate role. Even if a user is an admin of the business, they will not be able to complete the process if they are not explicitly listed as an admin of the page.

To check if the user has these permissions, follow these steps:

  1. Log into the Page with the Page’s user profile (you can switch profiles from the top right corner).
  2. Click on the "Settings" button of the Page (located in the side menu of the Page’s admin profile).
  3. In the new side menu under “Settings and Privacy”, go to Page Settings under the Audience and Visibility section.
  4. Select "Page Access".
  5. Verify the “People with Facebook Access” section. The user should appear here and must have full access.

Alternatively, you can access this section from within the Facebook Page:

  1. Select "Meta Business Suite" from the left menu.
  2. Choose "All Tools" from the left menu.
  3. In the center of the screen, various options will appear. Select "Page Settings".
  4. Finally, select "New Page Experience" from the left menu

You can also directly access this section using this link: https://www.facebook.com/settings?tab=profile_access while logged in with the Page profile.

In any of these cases, you will arrive at a screen similar to the following:

The user must appear in the "People with Facebook Access" section. If the user initiating the one-click does not appear in this section, they will not be able to complete the process and will encounter an error stating that they are not an administrator.

If the user does not appear in the list, you need to use the "Add" button at the top. Upon clicking this button, search for the user you want to add and specify that you want to grant them full control permissions:

This action must be performed by a different user than the one you wish to add (i.e., a user cannot add themselves). Therefore, it may be necessary to use a "sparring" approach. For example, the client grants admin permissions to a user within their organization, and then that another user can add the original user.

The selected user will receive an invitation that must be accepted to be included as a page administrator. Typically, they will receive the invitation via email or see it in the notification bell at the top of the Facebook navigation bar.

* When we need to grant permissions for a Facebook page to integrate into our Oct8ne panel, sometimes the invitation notification to manage the page is not received correctly (possible Facebook bug). However, you can check this notification from other places besides the personal account notifications (bell icon).

To view this notification, follow these steps:

  1. Facebook Icon
  2. Direct Access to Pages
  3. Invitations (within the Pages section)

Once they accept the invitation, the user will appear in the list of people with access to the page (although it may take a few seconds or minutes to reflect) and will be able to complete the one-click setup without issues.

Lastly, a very important reminder: if this user changes their password in the future, is removed from the business, or if their permissions are modified or removed in the page access section, the link with Oct8ne's Messaging will break due to Meta's security measures. This is not a serious issue; simply perform a "refresh" of the token using the circular button in the Messaging Setup instance)

TO ADD AN ADMIN ON CLASSIC PAGES

To perform the same steps on classic Facebook pages, follow these instructions:

  1. Access the Page Settings
  2. Page Roles
  3. Assign a New Page Role
  4. Select Admin and add the user who will perform the "One-click" process

This must be done by a different user than the one we want to add (i.e., similar to the new page experience, a user cannot add themselves). Therefore, it may be necessary to use a "sparring" partner to do this. For example, the client grants admin permissions to another user in their organization, and then that user can add the original user.

* Issues with Instagram Account Permissions

Sometimes the Instagram account and Facebook page may be correctly linked, but Instagram messages are not received in the Oct8ne integration. This could be due to the switch on the Facebook page not being turned on to allow Instagram message management.

  1. The client should go to the Facebook page Facebook
  2. They need to log in with a user profile that has permissions to manage the page.
  3. Go to the Facebook page they manage.
  4. Settings
  5. Linked Accounts.

On this page, you will see the Instagram account linked with that Facebook page, and as shown in the first image above, there is a missing permission

To enable Instagram message management from the Facebook page, we have two options:

  1. From the Facebook Page (This often fails, Facebook issues): To resolve the error, make sure to enable the option "Allow access to Instagram messages in the inbox."

When toggling the switch, the client will need to log in to the Instagram account. This should activate the permission, but often this option remains inactive (potential Facebook issues, permissions? We are not sure).

  1. From Instagram Account Settings.

Another option is to do this in the Instagram mobile app from the linked account profile (RECOMMENDED).

Go to Settings > Messages and Story Replies > Message Controls > Allow access to messages.

Once this is done, upon reloading the Facebook page, Linked Instagram Accounts, you will see that the permission now correctly appears in the settings of the linked Instagram account

That's all, we hope this clarifies the matter a bit more.
