Tab freezing (Browser performance policies)

Occasionally, we've received reports that the panel isn't automatically updating or that certain conversations aren't appearing in real time, even though they are happening. In these cases, manually refreshing the page resolves the issue. This behavior isn't due to a system error, but rather to how some browsers manage performance when a tab remains inactive for a while, temporarily pausing its background activity. This is called tab freezing.

Why might the app stop updating?

The Google Chrome browser includes a memory-saving feature that automatically freezes tabs that have been inactive for a while.
This feature aims to:
  1. Reduce memory usage.
  2. Improve overall system performance.
  3. Save battery life on laptops.
Warning
When a tab freezes, the browser temporarily stops its activity. This scenario can cause the following in Oct8ne:
  1. Information is not updated in real time.
  2. Automatic processes are stopped.
  3. It is necessary to return to the tab for everything to continue functioning.

This behavior is normal and is part of how the browser works.

SOLUTION

GOOGLE CHROME
To ensure that Oct8ne continues to function even when the tab is in the background, it is necessary to add the Oct8ne dashboard web address to Chrome's performance exceptions list.
  1. Open Google Chrome.
  2. Click the three-dot menu in the upper right corner.
  3. Select Settings.
  4. In the sidebar menu, click Performance.
  5. Locate the section called 'Always keep these tabs open'.
  6. Click Add.
  7. Enter the domain address https://backoffice-eu.oct8ne.com or https://backoffice.oct8ne.com (depending on your situation).

Idea
Once added, Chrome will not freeze open tabs from that domain, even if they remain in the background.


MICROSOFT EDGE
Microsoft Edge uses a feature called “Sleeping Tabs”.

When a tab has been inactive for a while, Edge suspends it to free up system resources.

How to prevent a specific page from being suspended:
  1. Open Microsoft Edge.
  2. Click the three dots (top right corner).
  3. Go to Settings.
  4. Access the System and performance section.
  5. Find the Save resources with tabs in sleep mode option.
  6. Under Never suspend these tabs, click Add.
  7. Enter the domain address https://backoffice-eu.oct8ne.com or https://backoffice.oct8ne.com (depending on your situation).
Idea
This way, Edge will always keep that page active.


FIREFOX
Firefox also applies background optimizations, although its management is somewhat different.
This browser can reduce the frequency of script execution and tab loading if the system has low memory.
In this case, Firefox doesn't have as direct a list as Chrome or Edge for excluding specific domains from the standard menu.

As a general recommendation:
  1. Keeping the tab pinned (right-click → Pin tab) can help.
  2. Avoid having a large number of tabs open.
  3. Disable extensions that manage memory usage.
  4. In critical environments, it is recommended to use Chrome or Edge, as they allow you to add specific exceptions.

SAFARI (MAC)
Safari also suspends tabs in the background to save power.
There isn't a simple option to exclude specific domains. This feature is part of macOS's power management system.

In this case, the following is recommended:
  1. Keep the tab open if it needs continuous updates.
  2. Or use a browser that allows you to configure manual exceptions.
